SYS-CON Events’ Cloud Expo 2012, the largest cloud conference in the world, will convene June 11-14, 2012, at Javits Center in New York City, and this could be the most important technology conference for your company. The federal government is leading the way in moving information technology to the cloud. Your business can’t survive if it doesn’t do the same.

The buzz word “cloud computing” basically refers to the use of virtual servers over the Internet. These servers can be used for hosting data, testing applications, increasing infrastructure on demand, and providing software as a service, just to name a few examples.

To give attendees a better understanding of cloud computing, Cloud Expo 2012 features the one-day Cloud Computing Bootcamp, led by Larry Carvalho, founder of Robust Cloud, a company that offers advice on business strategies for cloud computing.

In addition to the boot camp, more than 175 conference sessions will be available for you to learn the basics of cloud computing and the best techniques for keeping your business alive in this new paradigm. Topics include transforming your enterprise using the cloud and its platforms, readying enterprise applications for the cloud, developing applications for the cloud, cloud architecture requirements, the various types of clouds, compliance and the cloud, cloud computing and healthcare, open source cloud computing, and cloud security.

Speakers include: Ajay Budhraja, CTO of the U.S. Department of Justice; Arun Gupta, Java EE/GlassFish Evangelist for Oracle; Kristin Lovejoy, vice president of IT risk for IBM; Mark Hinkle, director of the cloud computing community at Citrix; Dave Asprey, VP of cloud security for Trend Micro; and Hans van de Koppel, senior enterprise architect for Capgemini, among others.

For the first time ever, this 10th Cloud Expo will bring together information on cloud computing and big data, two successfully growing trends in the IT industry. “Big data” refers to the vast amounts of enterprise data accumulating as a result of machine-based business. Big data conference topics include best practices for unstructured data storage, the growing big data tools landscape, and where big data fits into the cloud.

Information on both cloud computing and big data will be available in the sessions, keynote speeches, breakout sessions, discussion panels, and expo displays. Two vendor exhibition halls will be open to showcase the myriad offerings specific to cloud computing and big data as well.

More than 7,000 people attended the 2011 Cloud Expo. The expo is targeted at IT directors and managers, CTOs, CIOs, technology VPs, enterprise architects, network engineers, and infrastructure directors, as well as business executives such as presidents, VPs, CEOs, directors of business development, and managers of products and purchasing.

Sponsors of the 2012 Cloud Expo include Amazon Web Services, Cloud Security Alliance, CoreSite, Dell, Eucalyptus, GigaOM, IBM, IEEE Computer Society, Intel, Layer 7 Technologies, LongJump, McAfee, Microsoft, MicroStrategy, Object Management Group, OCZ Technology, Oracle, Parasoft, Rackspace Hosting, Red Hat, RightScale, SHI International, SoftLayer, Terremark, VMware, and Wall Street Technology Association.
