A short Introduction to the particular Android Honeycomb Os

Now that the iPad 2 is upon us everyone has eyes turned towards Google to see what they have conjured up to compete with Apple.

Google have answered the challenge with their new Android operating system Honeycomb 3. Developed specifically for tablets it is now the default operating system shipped on most new tablets.

Honeycomb 3 is developed for tablets so it has lots of new technology to take advantage of the power of the CPU and the larger screen of a tablet.

Honeycomb is an extension of the mobile phone Android OS with enhanced multitasking, rich notifications, customizable home screens, widgets, and the list goes on. The interface is a highly interactive 3D experience that creates familiarity while at the same time making it even better.

New applications are being written and old ones are being re-written to take advantage of the powerful graphics, media capabilities and the enhanced user experience that Honeycomb provides.

There are two new bars present. The "Systems" and "Action" bar. The "systems bar" is always present along the bottom of the screen. So if you are running an application the system bar will still be visible giving system information and updates (i.e. incoming mail etc) [http://www.topandroidapplication.com/ android apps] are complex but handy stuffs!

The "Action bar" is present while running an application. The "action bar" will give you navigation options, general options and will be a key point on the screen for accessing app information.

You can have the usual five customised home screens that give users access to everything in Honeycomb. All home screens have a grid orientation that allow placement for home screen widgets, app shortcuts, and wallpapers using a dedicated visual layout mode to be placed as wanted.

The Android keyboard has been enhanced as well. Typing is now easier with more keys added for richer text editing such as the tab key. They have also been reshaped and repositioned for better accuracy. You can now switch from text/input modes through a special button in the system bar and touching and holding keys will bring up a menu of special characters.

Honeycomb now includes new connectivity features that add usability and convenience for users. Built-in support for cameras and MP3 lets users instantly sync media files with a USB-connected camera or desktop computer, without needing to mount a USB hard drive. You can now hook up a full USB keyboard or connect one via Bluetooth if needed.

Included in Honeycomb is a brand new browser. Users can now navigate and organize their web experience with greater efficiency. An 'incognito' mode allows for anonymous browsing and instead of windows the browser now features tabs.

The Email application uses a new two-pane interface to make viewing and organizing your mail much quicker. The app lets users select one or more messages, then select an action from the Action bar, such as moving them to a folder or deleting them. With the new email Widget users can keep track of their emails with a quick glance. You can also keep track of attachments for later viewing.

With the larger screen comes a redesigned camera application to take advantage of it. Users also now have more convenient access to the front facing camera, exposure, focus, flash, zoom and a few other extras. With support for time-lapse video Honeycomb gives users a new and creative way to make videos. The Gallery application lets users view albums and other collections in full-screen mode, with easy access to thumbnails for other photos in the collection.

With large screen Android tablets people now have a choice. The world is no longer dominated by Apple but instead users now have a choice of technology to buy. Within the Android tablet realm there is even more choice with different sizes and different feature sets among the manufacturers that will appeal to different users. If you want a smaller tablet that is more portable you have that option. If you need something bigger or something more powerful to play games on and be more productive then that is also available.

The author enjoys writing about new technology and how it can benefit everyone. One of the latest gadgets that has caught his eye is the Acer Iconia Tablet A500 so why not check out the review.
