Although the band had not but officially been formed, Ulrich asked Hetfield to carry out vocals and rhythm guitar. 5 months later Ulrich begged Metal Blade Records founder Brian Slagel to permit him to record a track for the label's next compilation: Metal Massacre. Slagel agreed, along with the band was bona fide in October of 1981. |
