New page

Fire dancing stands out as the oldest and mystifying ritual, where barefoot dancers perform on burning ashes. This spiritual and mystic ritual for expelling health issues, for physical condition and effectiveness is one that must be experienced to be believed. The Festival of Roses is celebrated along at the base for the Balkan mountain range, for the Rose Valley close to the town of Kazanluk. Celebrated at the first weekend of every June, the event is a pageant of beauty in this distinctive Rose Valley. In the run-up of that fastivval, a Queen Rose beauty contest is held in several rounds. Easter in Bulgaria is an Orthodox traditions, symbolized with a red egg (or Pascha). At the present time other colors are employed along with the eggs are colored on Holy Thursday after the Divine Liturgy. The eggs are cracked following the midnight cathedral ceremony and over the next days. One egg is cracked upon the fence of the church, being the first egg consumed after the long fast. The ritual of cracking the remaining of these eggs is taken place earlier than Easter lunch. Everybody selects his/her egg. Next people take turns tapping their egg alongside the eggs of other people, and the one who finally ends up while using the last unbroken egg is believed to possess a year of excellent fortune.
