New page

Excellent Tips To Make Dog Training As Easy As Possible!

So many people end up with unruly pets because of a fear of dog training that has stricken so many people. Why? Well, being uneducated in dog training is an easy way to remain ineffective in your attempts. You should be more proactive in learning more so you can help your dog to learn more. Try these tips and move forward in learning new tricks.

If you are having problems with your dogs chewing up your things, it is important to monitor them closely. As soon as you discover them chewing something that is off limits, scold them, take away the item, and replace it with a chew toy and praise them for chewing the toy. If you wait until long after they've chewed the off-limits item they will not understand what they are being scolded for.

If you want to train your dog, you should wait until it is at least six weeks old. A younger dog will not understand what you are expecting, and not be able to control itself enough to obey your commands. The first weeks of your puppy's life should be about creating a bond with you.

If you want your dog to be trained to your standards, it is up to you to put the effort in to see the results you want. You must absolutely love your animal, and they will be trained in turn and love you in return. If you love them, they will feel the connection and training will be much simpler.

Encourage your dog's cooperation in training by rewarding good behavior. Dogs respond to a calm, confident leader who earns respect. When your dog responds to commands make sure you reward him with play or food, and make sure you reward easy commands as well as harder ones to build his confidence.

Don't comfort your dog for being anxious. This will just encourage him to be anxious. Instead, simply escort him to his crate, usher him in, and let him overcome his anxiety. You may want to leave a radio on in the room with him and possibly cover the crate to help reduce his anxiety. Once he is calm, bring him out and reward him for his calm behavior.

After each training session, spend a few minutes playing your dogs favorite game with him. If you do this every time, your dog will know it's coming after the training sessions and will be excited when it comes time for your daily session. The more excited he is, the better he'll do.

Dogs need attention. This can be either positive or negative attention. They will learn rather quickly what it is that gets your attention. Sometimes they won't care if you are giving positive or negative attention. Continue to reward your dog for good behavior with positive attention and do not give attention for any behavior you do not want. This will help to see the behaviors you want out of your dog.

One tip to keep in mind when training your dog is to never play tug-of-war style games with it. This only enforces aggressive behavior - something that you rarely wish to bring out in your dog. This can involve anything from pulling on a bone in your dog's mouth to playing with a toy. You also run the risk of injuring your dog with excessive force.

To get your dog to crawl on command, have him start in a lying position. If you are tall enough, or your dog is small enough, place your leg, heel on the floor, knee up, in front of him. Take a treat and lead him underneath your leg. If your dog cannot fit under your leg, find another low threshold, like a chair, that he can crawl under. This makes him have to scoot forward to get the treat and will reduce his urge to stand up to follow your hand.

The most important thing when it comes to dog training is remaining patient and committed to the process. Don't be discouraged by past failures, instead, approach it with renewed vigor and apply the tips and advice from this article to help ensure that your dog training will go as smoothly as possible.
