We'd two tours planned as well as the remaining portion of the time we'd remain in Colombo and absorb the culture.

Such a disaster.

Obviously we booked ourselves an automobile and driver as well for both these tours, also online.

So we arrived and had our first stint in Colombo and also the day of our first tour arrived. Our driver and vehicle arrived. And that we tripped. The driving experience is one thing else altogether. NEVER attempt to drive yourself in Sri Lanka - we were warned hence we had a car and driver.

I will remember driving up to our first accommodation - the looks on our faces dropped. The wife was devastated and our grown up daughters were not going to be comfortable. I swear it absolutely was a brothel or employed for those purposes too. Such a disaster.

And thats once the tour changed for all of us and the magic started.

Our tour guide/driver found the rescue. He saw and understood the apprehension in us and immediately ordered an inspection of the hotel. We told him i was unhappy and he went and spoke to the hotelier and sorted it. Booking canceled. Then he took us a number of other accommodation sites for inspection. All 3 and 4 star. Very suitable also to western standards and all sorts of inside our cost range. We just picked the accommodation i was happy with.

Which became the pattern throughout the tour.

He took us on Safari, found us safari drivers, wonderful local eateries, quality resorts and accommodation, he went trying to find and located incredible little shops and brought a genuine local flavour to the tour. History, culture, people, places, cuisine and anything else.

His time effort, meals, accommodation, diligent humble insightful plan to us was part and parcel of the sale and included in the price. Incredible!

On return from our first tour we cancelled everthing for the second tour and planned the next tour with him. Tea country, worlds end, elephant safari, elephant rides, shopping, Yala jungle preserve and also on and also on...
