New page

Best Remedies for Stress Headaches

Headaches have become a common complaint in this stressful world we live in. It is not normal, however, to have a throbbing headache every day or even every week. If you would like to be taught how to prevent or even cure your stress headaches, keep reading! Depending on the overall cause of your headaches, some of these solutions might work better than others.

You can ease your stress headache with an ice pack. You can make your own ice packs with a cold towel and a bag filled with ice (in a pinch frozen veggies will do). Lie down and do your best to relax and move the ice pack every few minutes from the top of your head to the back of your neck to your forehead. Let it sit the longest where you feel the most pain. Ice has the effect of numbing pain, and it can reduce the inflammation that's causing the headache. This won't take care of the cause of your stress headaches but it can be a fantastic way to get quick relief. Tension headaches can be caused by tightness around your jaw. There aren't that many people who understand just how tightly they clench their jaws when they are tense and this can cause a host of symptoms not the least of which is a headache. In extreme cases, this leads to TMJ, where any movement of the jaw can become painful. If this occurs, and it happens more often than you might think, it is important to consult a doctor or dentist or jaw specialist. Of course, you don't have to have TMJ to have jaw tension cause stress headaches. The best remedy for this is to become aware of tension in the jaw area and making a conscious effort to relax. Another good technique for this is to put a pencil, a pen, a small stick or something like that in between your teeth. Do not bite down on the object you choose, it is only meant to remind you to release the tension in the area.

What you drink or eat can feed into your headaches but not everybody is able to make that connection. You might think it's a tension headache but it might actually be a food allergy or drink sensitivity. Many people get headaches after consuming alcohol, even when they only drink a little bit of it. Caffeine, especially for people who drink a lot of it, is another very common culprit behind headaches. Reducing your caffeine intake is typically the best way to get rid of these headaches. For some people, headaches are caused by the consumption of other foods like chocolate, dairy and peanuts or peanut butter...anything that you have a sensitivity to. See if you can find a connection between headaches and what you've had to eat or drink.

In conclusion, stress headaches aren't anything that people typically want to deal with. They are caused by anything and everything from something complicated and medical to something simple and obvious. You can try one of the methods listed in this article but if they don't prove effective you should talk to a doctor.
