New page

Review of Marvel's The Avengers

Marvel's The Avengers dominated the summer blockbuster scene as marvelous performances, eye-popping action scenes and a seamlessly written script all melded together to produce an awesome film. Samuel L. Jackson, finally getting some prolonged display time before the movie credits, was completely cast as the daunting and manipulative Nick Fury. Chris Hemsworth as Thor again wowed fans with his blend of suave good looks and hulking biceps. Chris Evans again played the moral juggernaut, Captain America. Scarlett Johansson turned in a sensual performance as the insidious Black Widow. Even Jeremy Renner as the regular soldier codenamed Hawkeye demonstrated that arrows aren't just for cupid. Each played their roles as individuals and as part of a team.
The movie however belongs to Robert Downy Jr. as Iron Man/Tony Stark and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk. The two played their parts well individually, but their chemistry with each other, as shown by their 'bromance' moments, was one thing certainly fun to watch. Each had their own jaw-dropping moments, as when Iron Man utilized his new and improved armor and when the Hulk wiped the floor with Loki.Hopefully, the next Avengers movie could build upon these two good actors.
It is difficult for a author and a director to produce a movie with so many significant chracters. Yet Marvel's The Avengers managed to give each character enough display screen time to show their personalities, exhibit their powers and to allow them a few comedic moments. It is these comedic moments that elevated the film from just good to great. With a long running time, the comedic moments, perfectly timed and placed, kept the audience from being uninterested.
A great cast, a well-written script and tons of visual effect fun all contributed to the movies rousing accomplishment. Marvel's The Avengers managed to set the bar high, setting the standard for summer and superhero movies in the future.
