Geordie Shore is a reality television series broadcast by MTV UK. Set in and around Newcastle Upon Tyne Sunderland and South Shields, it is the British adaptation of American show Jersey Shore. The first episode aired on 24 May 2011.[2] Geordie Shore is the first official adaptation from the American version. The first series was heavily publicised before its release and after its success, a two-part Magaluf Madness special was commissioned. Series 2 was announced on 7 December 2011 and ran for eight episodes, viewing figures still held up strong and a third series was commissioned and has been filmed in Cancún, Mexico. A fourth series was also commissioned on 24 May 2012.

Although often compared to its contemporary reality shows The Only Way Is Essex and Made in Chelsea, Geordie Shore is thought to be much less of a 'structured reality'. The events are presented more like a documentary and production forgoes the glossy, soap like style the previous programmes adopt. Members of crew can be seen to intervene when scenes on Geordie Shore are getting out of hand.

Geordie Shore was commissioned in January 2011. In June 2011, two summer specials based in Magaluf were announced as well as a reunion special. On 15 August 2011 it was announced that Geordie Shore had been recomissioned for a second series with an extended eight episode run. On 7 December 2011 it was confirmed the second series would begin on 31 January 2012. After the Magaluf specials Greg Lake announced he was to leave the show and not appear in the second series. Rebecca Walker (18) and Ricci Guarnaccio (25) were cast as Lake's replacements.

For series two the cast moved from their home in Jesmond to a new house in a converted warehouse on the outskirts of the city. In January 2012 the cast launched their own fragrance, capturing the essence of Newcastle. Titled L’eau De Geordie (the world's first ever KEBAB scented perfume), their spoof perfume was to mark the premiere of the second series.

On 23 February 2012, it was announced that the cast of Geordie Shore would head to Cancún in Mexico for Spring Break, eight episodes will be filmed for series 3.[13] Series three will begin filming in early March and will air on MTV in June, it was later confirmed by cast member Gary Beadle via Twitter.[14] In the article of the announcement of the third series the Senior Vice President and Director of Television for Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Kerry Taylor said the following in an article on the MTV UK website "There has been an overwhelming response to Geordie Shore from our audiences across the globe – both from a ratings perspective and across social media platforms." It was confirmed by cast member Jay Gardner via twitter that series 3 will start on 6 June 2012.

There was only ever one way MTV could up the ante for a third series of a show that would be more accurately entitled 'Sex!', and that was to create 'Sex: The Holiday!'

With the Geordie Shore cast having bent every single Newcastle resident over a corner group sofa by this point, it was inevitable they would once again look abroad for more unwitting humans to spoon, especially after the successful sex-conquering of Spain that was 'Magaluf Madness'.

'I can't wait to get me-self some Mexican muff!' cried James, as the boys stretched tiny vests over their melted Malteser bodies and prepared to dry hump Cancun's clubbers into submission.

There were challenges in their continuing mission to make life into an LMFAO video this time around, mainly that it was Spring Break in Mexico and therefore full of Americans who struggle with their thick, Geordie accents.

Then there was the fact that, after having already shared a house and copious spirits together for two whole seasons, most of the cast hate each other - plus two of them are now in relationships and therefore off the buffet sh*g table (you can have that one for free, MTV).

But whatever, with it maintaining scenes of eye-wateringly sloppy copulation and brazenly explicit chat, it should at least divert prudes' attention for a while and spare us a few painful headlines about the 'raunchiness' of Rihanna's knee.
